About Us

Welcome to Rawhide Western 🤎

Rawhide Western is more than a western store.

It’s family.
It’s rodeos.

It’s horses.

It’s community.

It’s early mornings, late nights, dusty boots and doing life the western way.

Our story began back in 1979 when my parents, Chris and Gail Mackenzie, started Mackenzie’s Saddlery in country Victoria.

Built through hard work, passion and a love for the equine industry, the business grew over the years supplying riders, competitors and western families across Australia and overseas.

As the business evolved, so did the name.

Rawhide Western wasn’t a new beginning it was simply the next chapter of the same family story.

The values stayed the same:

Old-fashioned service. Quality products. Real people.

Today I’m proudly carrying that legacy forward as the next generation behind Rawhide.

Life Behind Rawhide

Rawhide is still very much a family business.

You’ll find us online, packing orders late into the night, helping customers choose the right gear, travelling the rodeo circuit and setting up our pop-up shop across Queensland.

Our Rawhide bus spends many weekends on the road attending rodeos, barrel races, bull & bronc events and western events.

We love meeting new faces, catching up with customers who have supported us for years and being part of the community that helped build this business.

Why Buy From Rawhide Western?

Rawhide Western is a family business that began in 1979 when Chris and Gail Mackenzie started serving Australia’s western and horse community.

For decades, Mum and Dad built a business known for supporting rodeos, barrel races, campdrafts and horse people from all walks of life. Their passion for the western industry, commitment to customer service and love of the western way of life became the foundation of Rawhide Western.

In 2023, I took over the day-to-day running of the business so Mum and Dad could step back from the demands of travelling and running a retail business. While Mum is no longer with us, her influence remains at the heart of everything we do and her legacy continues through the customers, friendships and community she helped build.

Dad still plays a part behind the scenes, creating leatherwork and sharing the knowledge and craftsmanship that have been part of our family for generations.

Today, you’ll find me travelling Queensland in the Rawhide bus, attending rodeos, barrel races, campdrafts and country events, proudly continuing the family business Mum and Dad worked so hard to create.

When you shop with Rawhide Western, you’re supporting a genuine Australian family business built on tradition, community and a lifelong love of horses and the western lifestyle.
